Witham Street Entertainment Festival

21 Sept 2024

Festival Success

The Witham Town Council run Witham Street Entertainment Festival 2024 took place on Saturday, September 21st in the heart of Witham Town Centre. The event transformed the town into a vibrant hub of entertainment, filling Newland Street, the Grove and Newlands Shopping Centres, and the United Reformed Church with exciting performances and activities for visitors of all ages.

Some of the day’s highlights included:

  • The Walkabout Flower Pot People, a quirky and delightful pair of living garden pots that charmed their way down Newland Street.

  • Raja the Giant Walkabout Indian Elephant, who majestically wandered through the crowds, bringing smiles and wonder to everyone in his path.

  • The playful and enchanting Cloud People Puppets, who danced gracefully and occasionally showered festival-goers with light "rain."

  • The charismatic duo known as The Dapper Chaps, stilt-walking gents who added a touch of class and humour to the streets.

  • Granny Turismo, the world’s first and only shopping trolley dance display team, which brought hilarity and energy to Witham’s pavements.

  • Rebel Legion, who thrilled fans of the Dark Side with an appearance by none other than Darth Vader and his infamous crew.

  • And of course, the ever-popular Titan the Robot, whose family-friendly comedic antics and impressive showmanship made him an instant favourite with the crowd.

In addition to the street acts, Witham Town Council members were on hand, running a stall that offered free temporary tattoos to children. Witham Town Mayor Councillor Lucy Barlow said ‘It is always a pleasure to attend the Witham Street Festival as it brings the whole community together. This year’s event seemed particularly well attended with visitors from both Witham and beyond coming to see their favourite returning performers as well as new ones appearing for the first time. We are always open to feedback so if you enjoyed the day and want to let us know which acts were your favourite or you have new ones you would like to see perform please get in touch. We would also like to thank the organisers and volunteers such as St Johns Ambulance and the Community Special Constables who gave up their time to help make the day such a success’.

Witham Town Council is proud to support and organize such an event, promoting local culture and providing entertainment for all and looks forward to the remaining calendar of events this year. These are the Halloween Trail on 26th October 2024 (booking necessary) and the Christmas Market and Light Switch On 30th November 2024.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made the Witham Street Entertainment Festival 2024 a day to remember.
